people behind EMPOWER?
Sima
Sengupta - Director
Sima (Dr. Sengupta) has been a teacher
educator in the University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Polytechnic
University. As an Assistant Professor, with a background in language development
and education, she provides the philosophical and theoretical framework on which
EMPOWER is built. With the idea of starting EMPOWER, she has returned to live in
India in September 2004.
Anindita
Dev - Principal
Anindita (Ms Dev) is a trained
Montessori teacher with 5 years experience. She has been instrumental in
introducing a variety of innovative ideas in her previous school. She constantly
merges Montessori principles within regular schooling and has published a couple
of children's books.
Nibedita
Sen - Teacher in charge
Nibedita (Mrs. Sen) ran a highly
successful crèche in Malad, Mumbai. She has spent 3 years in Fiji where she
taught as well as participated in media activities to disseminate Bengali
culture. She has organised shows with young children in Mumbai and Fiji.
Susmita Sengupta -
Administrator
Susmita (Mrs. Sengupta) has been running
her own business for the last four years and is actively involved in a
charitable school run by a non profit making organization a few miles outside
Kolkata. With a background nurtured in Santiniketan and Kolkata, she is highly
aware of the context within which EMPOWER is run.
We are not supported or
backed by any big business. Our aim in starting the school was to give children
a unique experience. To achieve this aim, we wished to keep our independence. So
this is not a commercial venture as profits are not our guiding principle -
EMPOWER is rather an attempt to realise a dream.
